Description
Houses built along the flood plain of the Choco region of Colombia, are built on stilts, to the maximum flood level of the river to ensure that the house is not flooded or destroyed during the rainy season Average rainfall for the Choco region is one of the heaviest in the world...a staggering 11 meters a year! It rains most days but it rains more during the rainy season than the dry season. Roofs are made of tin to shed the water more rapidly. Transportation is by river and thus by boat. This is taken along one of the tributaries of the Atrato River that flows along the western edge of the city of Quibdo, Choco, Colombia.

Homely yet, homey. :) Great shot. L/F

Thanks William! It's all pretty basic! I had the opportunity to stay with a family out in the jungle (with a guide) and there was no electricity, running water or sewage! Slept in a hammock with the chickens and pigs wandering through! Makes you appreciate what you have.

We saw many such buildings all across Latin America. Obviously a wise move.. 11 meters!! Unreal! VLF
