Artist's Description
I've been watching a family of Baltimore Orioles making the transition from "nesters" to "empty nesters" and have enjoyed it immensely. Though both parents were occupied in providing food for three young ones that were leaving the nest, it was prime opportunity to take advantage of their distraction to get a close-up of dinner time as parents would go from one to the nest (all perched in different tree branches, waiting for the next mouthful to keep the growing spurt alive.
It seems that timing is right as the young ones were growing at the same rate parallel to the harvest of insect grubs in the nearby trees to keep pace with the growing appetites!
This photo was taken on the family farm some 40 kms southeast of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada.
